About BB Remedial Massage
Bryony Benwell works as a massage therapist at her clinic in Lee Common, near Great Missenden.
Bryony qualified as a remedial and sports massage therapist from the Northern Institute of Massage, near Manchester. She has a passion for health and wellbeing, believing that everyone should have the ability to live life to the full!
Bryony was drawn to sports and remedial massage from an interest in the outdoors, particularly cycling, and pilates. This journey led her to be convinced of the power of massage to help heal many different issues from IBS and headaches to speeding up injury recovery time.
Bryony takes a holistic approach to her patients’ care. She is especially interested in long and short-term postural habits that can lead to pain. This type of postural pain can be caused by anything from the way you work to the way you play sport. After the initial thorough assessment, a treatment plan is drawn up and exercises are given to do at home.
Using a variety of different massage techniques, she aims to improve pain and flexibility and improve general comfort and performance long-term. She is a member of the governing body NAMMT (The National Association of Massage and Manipulative Therapy), is fully insured and is regularly updating her knowledge with CPD courses.
Some of the specialist techniques used at BB Remedial Massage:
Soft Tissue Release
STR is a technique used to restore normal flexibility to a very tense and shortened muscle. It is used after a muscle has been warmed up. Precise pressure is used combined with active and/or passive stretching. The therapist will press onto the affected muscle creating a ‘lock’. This effectively shortens the usable length of the muscle, either you or the therapist will then stretch the muscle. Great for flexibility and pain and only used on an injury if it’s not recent.
Muscle Energy Technique
MET is a type of osteopathic manipulation designed to improve musculoskeletal function through mobilising joints and stretching tight muscles and fascia in order to reduce pain, improve circulation and aid lymphatic flow. A favourite and very effective.
Biomechanic Analysis
Biomechanic analysis is the study of how someone moves. It can play an important role in injury prevention and performance enhancement in sportspeople and others.
Trigger Point Release
Trigger point release helps with the ‘Knots’ and painful spasming muscle tissue that form small lumps. This is only a temporary pain relief solution usually, but can be useful.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is sports massage?
Sports Massage is a deep tissue massage that is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissues that are caused by repetitive and strenuous activity and trauma.
Soft tissue is connective tissue which includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia.
Having a sports massage before and after exercise may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
What is remedial massage?
Remedial massage is a targeted treatment that identifies specific issues in the body and then uses many different massage techniques to treat them. Remedial massage is perfect for those with chronic pain or injuries which require specialist treatment.
Do you only treat sports injuries?
No, I treat all types of pain. Massage is brilliant for helping relieve pain caused by all sorts of different things, from biomechanics to habitual posture.
Can massage help with my chronic back/neck pain and headaches?
Absolutely. This type of pain can be present for many reasons. Sometimes injury, sometimes posture. At the beginning of the treatment, a thorough assessment will be made to try and identify why there is pain and then a personalised treatment plan will be discussed with you to get you on the way to being pain free.
